Cisco Wants Nexus 7000 to be Your Data Center Switch

CrossTech Media

9/3/2008

With their new switch platform, Cisco intends to cover all your needs in one robust switch architecture. The Nexus 7000 is built to be bigger, stronger, and more flexible than everything that comes before. Given that we're very interested in the future of the Next Data Center, reading this article by David Newman at NetworkWorld (including a big review) gave us lots to think about.

First, it's built to handle much more in the way of virtualization, including having its own virtualized elements built into its new NX OS. Second, the brawnier CLI gives power users a much more capable interface. Another great point: up to four virtual switches built into the one interface, accounting for more protection, Sarb-Ox compliance within the same box, and more.

If you want details of the review, read the full article here. If you want to talk more about the future of data center technology like this and other infrastructure or servers, check out the Next Data Center event that we're putting on this spring.
