Storage experts EMC have signaled their interest in expanding their market to reach midsized and small business customers, as well as consumers by purchasing Zip Drive manufacturer Iomega for $213 million dollars, according to a post on Engadget.
According to Iomega CEO Jonathan Huberman, who will stay on to run the new consumer / small business unit, this acquisition allows for a scaling opportunity, paving the way for smaller businesses who find themselves outgrowing their consumer storage needs to now have a growth path up into EMCs midmarket and enterprise product sets. The merger is reported to be complete in June 2008.
