Systems Management News has an interesting article about how the popular social news site, Digg, was able to manage 26 million (!) users a month. What's notable is that a site receiving more traffic than BestBuy, LinkedIn, or Ask.com is built on a lot of fast-implemented ideas without a lot of architectural and operational red tape.
Article author Alex Handy's interview of Digg's Ron Gorodetzky goes into database considerations, stumbling blocks, and a quick discussion of how they had to rethink file systems when they added photos and videos to the overall platform.
Read the entire interview here, and if you're interested in how data centers will adapt to support these kinds of platforms, consider checking out our Next Data Center event this October in Atlanta, where we'll host executive briefings on what comes next with regards to building tomorrow's data center.
